5 Study Habits Of Successful Students
Time is limited, and you can never get back this moment once it is gone or wasted.
That Youtube video that you really feel like watching will be of no use to you, 5 years from now
That friend whom you want to go window shopping with will not be making your dad and mom proud
Be Selfish. As you move forward in life, you will realize that looking after your own interests and well-being is really important. Nobody really cares about you other than you
Study because one day you will know that Knowledge is power
Don’t study because you have to get good grades. Study to be really good at the subjects you are studying. To gain knowledge and skills. There will be times when you will feel that they are of no use, but after some time, you will know that you have the right because you kept studying
Enjoy your studies. Really. Find happiness learning things. Right now as you read this, you learned something. New knowledge and good advice are making you better day by day
Understand that when you study or exercise your mind, you are getting better
Give up on everything around you. Just know that at this age, at this time, studying is the only – and best – option you should have in life
What Are Some Good Tips For Concentrating Fully On Studies?
What are some fun, rare, and effective methods to study productively?
When you follow these simple rules, you will increase your productivity after studying for a week:
Study for not more than 1 hour 45 min at each session. Then take a 10 to 20 minute break before continuing with your studies
Water boosts confidence, helps with concentration, and reduces stress. Bring a water bottle and a glass along to the area where you will be studying. You should complete drinking a glass of water from the bottle within 30 minutes with you while entering the room (ie, one glass of water in every half an hour)
Make mini-notes. After completing one chapter, you can make small notes summarizing the main points and formulas, keywords etc of the chapter. That will help you when you are revising the whole syllabus in just few minutes or hours just before your exams
Revise this same information the next day. For the human mind to retain information for a longer period of time, the content that you learned today should be revised the next day. Then, revise again after 7 days. The content will remain in your mind for much longer. Make one long term plan (3, 6 or 12 months ) and short-term plans for every 7 days that should ultimately meet with your long-term plan and schedule
Plan a proper time-table where you give your weaker subjects more time. For example, if your Math is weak, give it 2 to 3 hours. If English is easy for you, give it 1 hour
Eat wisely. Ensure that you eat proper food so that you will not get sick just before your exams
Many students think that studying the whole night before the exams will help them prepare better. In reality, sleep is very important for the proper functioning of the brain. If you had studied and prepared properly before the exam, you will be able to calmly handle the answers. But if you didn’t, you are just spoiling your night and the chances for doing well in your exams. You can’t complete studying new information from the syllabus in just one night
Don’t waste time on others’ opinions. Just always focus on working on your own goals
Understand the content before you jump straight in to memorize and cram all the information. Understanding a concept is the most important step, and should be your priority. Without understanding – and just memorizing blindly – you will forget all the key information by the next day
When you use active recall (testing yourself) and spaced repetition (remembering the information for a longer period of time), you will be able to better remember what you had learned. The first repetition should be after 7 days, then 14 days, and then after a month. Keep following this pattern until your exams
Being able to focus is one of the key ingredients for effective studying. When you are studying, do not think about your school events, podcasts, birthday parties, or what your friends are doing on social media. Once you have finished your revision and homework, you can relax and do all of the fun stuff
Review the notes that you took in class. If you had taken good notes, everything that you need for your homework and exams should be in your notes and textbook. If your teacher doesn’t teach well or you don’t have sufficient notes, refer to the textbook at whatever chapter you are working on, or go online to look for credible sources of information about these topics so that you have a better mastery of the required knowledge
Study a maximum of 2 subjects a day, so that there is no information overload that your brain cannot handle
Sleep well every night, if you have tests every day for a week or two. Don’t stay up studying past midnight or 2am, and get at least 5 to 6 hours of sleep. Never sacrifice your sleep, especially right before the exams. Sleep deficit will affect your efficiency and effectiveness of study as well as make you stressed and you may spoil your performance in exams
Focus on learning logical concepts, not on panic studying
Keep your study place organized. This will also keep your mind organized
Engage in physical activity at least for an hour daily. The increased blood circulation to your brain will help you focus, remember, and recall information much better
Remove distractions like your electrical devices
Keep your willpower strong. When you continue to be determined, then no one can stop you from succeeding
